Your Local Tree Crew in Maryville

Pro Tree of Knoxville handles storm damage tree removal in Maryville, TN, from trees resting on roofs and cars to limbs hung up in the canopy after a hard wind. We also do the trimming, pruning and planned removals that keep Maryville properties safer before the next storm rolls in off the mountains. Maryville is about 20 miles south of our Knoxville shop, and Blount County is part of our regular service area.

Maryville sits right where the Tennessee Valley starts climbing into the Great Smoky Mountains foothills. That location gives the city its views and its character, and it also puts Maryville in the path of storms that build over the mountains and push down into the valley. When those storms come through, the large hardwoods that shade so many Maryville neighborhoods take the brunt of it.

Recent Storm History

Blount County Storm Damage by the Record

Blount County has a long record of damaging wind events. During the April 27, 2011 Super Outbreak, the National Weather Service confirmed an EF0 tornado near Louisville in Blount County and another EF0 near Greenback on the Blount and Loudon County line. The February 2015 ice storm also hit Blount County, coating trees with enough ice to bring down limbs across the area.

More recently, storms on March 16, 2026 and August 13, 2026 brought trees down across the county. In one widely reported case, a tree fell on Morganton Road and crushed both a car and a camper, and several trees came down within Maryville itself.

These events share a pattern. The trees that fail are usually large, mature hardwoods that were already carrying a weakness: a decayed root plate, a weak fork, dead wood high in the crown, or a lean toward the house that got worse over the years. A storm simply finishes what time started.

Why Maryville Trees Grow Fast

Foothills Growth and Mixed Soil

Trees in the foothills grow vigorously, and Maryville is no exception. Lush spring growth looks great, but it also means limbs reach roofs and power lines faster than many homeowners expect. A maple or oak that cleared the house comfortably five years ago may be resting on the shingles today.

The soil around Maryville varies a lot from one part of town to the next. Hillsides tend to be acidic and well-drained, while flatter areas often sit on heavy clay. Trees on well-drained slopes can root deeply, but trees on clay flats often have shallow root systems that lose their grip in saturated ground. A tree that was planted in the wrong spot, or whose roots were cut during construction of a driveway or addition, is more likely to fail in a storm.

Maryville College, founded in 1819, sits on a wooded campus near downtown, and many older Maryville neighborhoods have the same mature mix of oaks, maples, redbuds and dogwoods. Those older trees deserve the most attention, because they are the largest and carry the most risk if something goes wrong.

Rentals and Second Homes

Tree Care Along the Smokies Corridor

Maryville sits on the main routes toward Townsend and the national park, and a lot of properties in and around the city are vacation rentals or second homes. For owners who are not on site every week, trees can become a liability before anyone notices. A dead limb over a driveway or a cracked trunk next to a deck can ruin a guest's stay or cause real harm.

We can walk a rental property with you or your property manager, flag the trees that need attention, and handle pruning or removal on a schedule that works around bookings. Hemlocks in the foothills are also worth watching for signs of hemlock woolly adelgid, a pest that has damaged hemlock stands across the Smokies region.

After a Storm in Maryville

How We Handle Storm Damage Calls

If a tree is on your home, get everyone out of the affected rooms, stay away from any downed power lines, and contact the utility if lines are involved. Take photos from a safe distance for your insurance company. Then call us at (865) 294-0062.

We assess how the tree is loaded before cutting anything, because a tree resting on a roof can shift if it is cut in the wrong order. We remove it in controlled sections, clear the debris from the roof and yard, and grind the stump if you want it gone. After the emergency is handled, we will look over the other trees on the property so you know whether anything else was weakened. Our emergency tree services page explains the full process.

Maryville Tree Service Questions, Answered

Do you offer storm damage tree removal in Maryville, TN?

Yes. We provide storm damage tree removal in Maryville, TN for trees and limbs on homes, vehicles, fences and driveways, along with hanging limbs and split trunks. Call (865) 294-0062 to describe what happened.

Does Pro Tree of Knoxville serve all of Blount County?

We serve Maryville and the surrounding Blount County communities, including Alcoa, Louisville, Friendsville and Rockford.

Why do Maryville trees reach roofs and power lines so quickly?

Trees in the Smoky Mountain foothills grow vigorously, especially in spring. Regular clearance pruning keeps limbs off roofs and lines before they cause damage.

Can you inspect trees at a rental cabin or second home in Maryville?

Yes. We can walk the property with you or your property manager, flag trees that need attention, and schedule pruning or removal around your bookings.

What should I do if a storm-damaged tree is leaning but has not fallen?

Keep people and vehicles out of the area it could reach, and call us for an assessment. A leaning tree with lifted soil at the base can fail suddenly, especially in wet ground.

Do you grind stumps after storm removals?

Yes. Stump grinding can be added to any storm removal so the ground can be reseeded, replanted or built on.
